Video: Child Safety at the Pool!
About The Katelyn Foundation
Ask any parent and they will tell you, as they beam with pride, that they see something special in their child. There is an innate innocence, gentle curiosity, loving spirit and naivety in our children. Katelyn Michaud was one of those special children.
When Katelyn was born, she was a blessing to her 3 year-old sister Alexandra and her parents Sandra and Sean. It was clear from the start that little Katelyn was a special child. She was full of energy and absolutely loved life.
Her life was tragically cut short just one month after her 2nd birthday to a swimming pool accident on January 27, 2004. Since the loss of precious Katelyn, her mom, family and friends have dedicated themselves to creating something positive in her memory and have launched The Katelyn Foundation. It's purpose is to protect our children and families through education and public awareness on water safety and other risks to children.
The Katelyn Foundation's mission is to promote child safety through public awareness and education.
Water Safety Tips for you and your family
1. NEVER leave a child unattended near water for any reason~to answer the phone, the doorbell, go to the bathroom, attend to another child or attend household chores!
2. Keep a constant eye on children playing in or near any body of water, wading pool, public pool, bathtub, spa, ocean or lake. Appoint a "Designated Watcher" to keep an eye on children at play and while in the pool.
3. Fence your pool on all four sides with a barrier that is at least 60" tall. Move lawn chairs, tables, and other potential climbing aids away from the fence to help keep children out!
4. Secure all doors and windows leading to the pool area. Doors and windows should be alarmed to alert adults when opened.
5. DO NOT consider young children to be drown-proof because they have had swimming lessons or are wearing a life-preserver.
