About Sweetwater Organic Community Farm
Sweetwater Organic Community Farm was established in 1995 as a nonprofit community-supported urban organic farm and environmental education center in Tampa, Florida. We are located on 6 acres of suburban property along the Sweetwater Creek in Tampa's Town 'n' Country neighborhood, in Hillsborough County, FL. We operate a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Membership program, Sweetwater Sunday Farmers' Market and Music Series open to the public, educational field trip programs for visiting groups, Healthy Living Series workshops, outdoor movies, seasonal events, volunteer opportunities and more! Through our hands-on programs, visitors of all ages discover the wonders of nature, explore ecological interconnections, practice appropriate land stewardship and master sustainable agriculture techniques. Our farm provides the freshest possible organic fruits and vegetables for hundreds of Tampa Bay residents each year.

At Sweetwater, community members come together to grow and enjoy fresh organic food, acquire sustainable living skills, support local agriculture, enjoy nature, make new friends and be a part of the community. We offer a myriad of ways to get involved.

About Sweetwater Earth Day Festival
Join Sweetwater Organic Community Farm for the second annual Sweetwater Earth Day Festival entitled ?Sweetwater Earth Day: Growing for the Future? on Saturday April 17, 2010. Open to the public. Check www.sweetwater-organic.org for full festival schedule. Kids, families and adults of all ages welcomed. Suggested donation for each workshop - $10-20 based on ability.

This year?s festival will feature three prominent speakers on the topic of organic and local gardening. Rick Martinez, Founder and Director of Sweetwater Organic Community Farm, will discuss the basics of organic gardening in his Organic Gardening 101 workshop from 11:00-12:30. Then folk herbalist and long-time organic gardener, Willow LaMonte, will teach us ?Companion Planting for Gardens & Guilds? from 1:30-3:00. Finally, Jim Kovaleski will inspire us to ?Grow Community Connections in the Garden? from 3:30-5:00. His experience shows us how our home grounds can be a place of production instead of consumption, and how food transcends all boundaries, bringing neighbors together on a common ground of abundance and sustenance.

In addition, we will host a Community Garden Expo to raise awareness about local community gardening groups, and a Kids? Corner with fun activities scheduled all day for the children, including ? rain barrel painting, seed planting, and costume & musical instrument making for our children?s parade at 12:45.

Healthy Food and Drinks will be available, or bring a picnic lunch. To learn more visit www.sweetwater-organic.org!
