Pollo Tropical Charity Challenge

Local charities will step up to the plate for some friendly fundraising competition - all in the name of great taste - to celebrate Pollo Tropical?s new concept conversion on Waters Avenue and raise money for some of Tampa?s most-deserving local charitable organizations.

Starting on Tuesday, March 2 and continuing through the week, the Pollo Tropical® Charity Challenge will host a series of benefit night dinners at the new ?elevated? Pollo Tropical at 6276 W. Waters Avenue in Tampa, which will also unveil its new look, table service and menu items makeover.

The best part of the Challenge, according to Pollo Tropical?s Grace Uglade, is that anyone who is a supporter of these organizations who is going to eat dinner during charity challenge week can make a positive difference in their community just by enjoying a great meal.

Three local charities participating in the Pollo Tropical Charity Challenge include the Tampa Boys & Girls Clubs on March 2; The Children?s Home on March 3 and The Salvation Army on March 4. All benefit night events take place from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and each organization will receive 20 percent of all sales generated by the groups during the Charity Challenge hours.

In addition, the charity that raises the most funds from their benefit night wins the Pollo Tropical Champion Charity Award, which also brings an additional $1,000 donation from Pollo Tropical to the winning organization.

?The Pollo Tropical Charity Challenge is an easy way for charities and their supporters to raise funds and awareness for local programs,? said Kim Miller, Senior Director, Marketing & Communications at Pollo Tropical. ?By simply enjoying dinner or a snack, you can help one or all of these charities raise funds.?

Customers who wish to have their meals counted toward a charity during the challenge must present a Benefit Night voucher for that specific charity to the cashier at time of purchase. Each charity will have their own voucher identifying their organization and the specific date and times of their Benefit Night. Vouchers are valid only on the specified dates and will be available for downloading on each charity?s website or by visiting www.pollotropical.com and clicking on the Community tab and then Charities.

In addition to Tampa Bay being the venue for Pollo Tropical?s first ever Charity Challenge, it is also the first and currently only market to boast Pollo Tropical?s new elevated concept. The latest conversion at 6276 W. Waters Avenue marks the final Tampa Bay location to receive this delicious makeover. The other restaurants that have undergone this transformation are located at 3134 Tampa Road in Oldsmar, 3900 Park Boulevard in Pinellas Park and 3285 W. Hillsborough Avenue in Tampa.

?We are delighted that residents of Tampa Bay have responded so positively to the new concept, and we look forward to providing our customers with more great experiences as we continue to explore the re-branded concept,? said Miller.

In addition to the new table service and real plates, Pollo Tropical?s elevated concept features new menu items, including a new assortment of signature sandwiches and artistic wraps, including the Grilled Chicken Chipotle Sandwich, Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Peppadew Sauce, Pork BBQ Sandwich, Chicken Caesar Wrap, and Grilled Cuban Wrap.

Some new ingredients to complement Pollo Tropical?s new work of art include the use of Sea Salt seasoning instead of iodized salt on side dishes like yuca, rices, beans, and balsamic tomatoes.

Other side dishes that motivate the flavor masterpiece include a new Fiesta Salad made with black beans and corn, an award-worthy coleslaw and an array of rices and beans inspired by kitchens throughout the Caribbean.

A new kid?s meal menu lets you create your own kid-loving masterpiece with your choice of grilled drumstick & thigh, or grilled chicken breast strips, or 4 grilled Tropical Wings - along with your choice of any one side dish. But the most exciting part: the kid?s meal also includes a Vanilla Creamy Frozen Treat!

Moreover, a diverse wine list from Spain, Argentina, Chile, and Napa Valley starting at just $3.50 a glass and $15 per bottle was also added - as was a signature sangria widely popular at the other new Pollo Tropicals in Tampa, and a variety of bottled beers. Customers can unwind with a daily happy hour from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. that features pitchers of sangria for $5 and $1 off beer and wine.

A full service coffee bar was also added to include lattes, espresso, capuccino and American coffee.
