Robin Avery

About Robin Avery
While you may hear echoes of Sade, Marvin Gaye, Laura Nyro, and Carole King, there can be no mistake that Robin Avery's music and voice are all her own. With the 2008 release of her sweeping and inspiring new single, the Miami based singer/songwriter is breaking into the American consciousness with one simple mission: to ?Light The Way? for concerned Americans who are committed to righting social injustices and respecting the environment. For the week of August 1, 2008 ?Light The Way? was included as part of the TM Jones Hit Disc compilation that also had cuts from superstars Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney and Natalie Cole as well as singer/comedian Wayne Brady and Dutch sax sensation Candy Dulfer. TM Studios distributes these discs to over 5,400 stations worldwide, as well as satellite and internet networks, websites and the Armed Forces Radio Network.

In her 2005 release , THE WAY YOU HOLD ME, Robin teamed up with producers Paul Banman and Greg Minnick to offer her unique fusion of smooth jazz and R&B/Pop. With lyrical reflections on life and love, Robin's songs flow to the rhythm of life covering the joys and pangs of men and women who are trying to connect, separate, or find their own meanings. Avery?s cool cover version of The Cars? ?Drive,? which featured top smooth jazz saxman Warren Hill and was the featured single on The Way You Hold Me, recently received airplay on over 50 smooth jazz stations nationwide. Building on the goodwill of that genre, she recently signed on with the popular website www.smoothjazz.com for a four month promotion, which will include playing ?Light The Way? several times a day and a link to RobinAvery.com, where she is posting the stunning video she recently created for the song. The clip features images geared at reminding the viewer about the magnificence of the planet put in our charge. It was directed by veteran film director and MTV pioneer Ken Ross of Cyclone Pictures, Inc., who has shot over 60 music videos for everyone from Keith Richards and The Smiths to Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin, Patti Smith and Rosanne Cash.

The smooth jazz community can?t stop raving. Sandy Shore of smoothjazz.com said of Avery?s debut: ?slick, crisp production, fresh and cool vocal tunes?create a fantastic listening experience from the beginning to the final track. Radio & Records? smooth jazz editor Carol Archer adds, ?Avery?s a new artist to me - a damned good one, too.?

This newfound national attention is an exciting extension of the popularity and acclaim that Avery has received locally in recent years. She?s performed at numerous city events in Hollywood, Florida as well as festivals like the Hollywood International Music and Arts Festival, the Abacoa Music And Arts Festival , the Miami International Book Fair, and SunFest, the largest outdoor music festival in South Florida. The past five New Year?s Eves, she and her band have also held court at the historic Las Olas Riverside Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale.

For Robin Avery singer/songwriter, following her dreams has always led to music. From the time she was a little girl, Robin was infatuated with music and performing. A native of Florida, she grew up on Miami Beach. She began at an early age singing and dancing to pop tunes in front of her stereo and when she was 9 wrote her first song and won her first talent contest. From the ages of 11 to 16 she was the lead soloist in her school choir. Having her journey temporarily turned away from the musical path, Robin immersed herself in academia and eventually earned a Ph.D. in psychology. She pursued a career as a neuropsychologist in California, working with stroke victims and patients with head injuries, but never abandoning her musical spirit and passion. Later, returning to South Florida, that same musical passion inspired Robin to begin the pursuit of her lifelong dream to write and sing her own songs.

In addition to performing and other appearances, Robin is currently in recording and production of her forthcoming album release, ROSE.

Robin Avery is a rare artist. In a time when others in her format are looking to jump on a trend to get momentary exposure, Robin is an artist whose music and words paint wonderful images of what we want our lives to be, and who we aspire to become. This is truly an artist who will stand the test of time.
