"Sea Sick"

Video: Helping our oceans
Our oceans provide 99% of the world's living space and are crucial to the survival of our planet.  The oceans provide oxygen and even regulate the climate.  So if our oceans are "sick" what does this mean for the rest of our planet?  And, is it possible to undue the damage we've done to help make the ocean "well" again?

In the 2010 Grantham Prize award-winning book "Sea Sick," veteran journalist Alanna Mitchell joins scientists in nine global hotspots and takes the oceans' vital signs firsthand. She travels to the Gulf of Mexico, learns of the shocking implications of the increasing acidity of the sea, descends to the ocean floor and across continents to conclude that although the health of the ocean has been severely damaged by our modern way of life, there is still hope for the future. Mitchell explains the complex science of the ocean in an engaging and accessible way and also imparts an inspiring personal story along the way.
