A Room of Her Own
Video: All the comforts of home...
As part of its 30-year anniversary celebration, Alpha House of Tampa's maternity residence is undergoing a nearly $175,000 redesign thanks to the generosity of a group of designers and design teams, room "adopters", and sponsors, all of whom are donating their time, talent and treasure. The project is called A Room of Her Own.
Alpha House of Tampa, the only licensed residential maternity program in Hillsborough County for homeless, expectant mothers and mothers with infants, houses 23 women and their children in its maternity residence. The small, institutional, dorm-like rooms have not been substantially renovated since the residence was built in 1988.
Understanding that environmental design impacts health and well-being, the goal of A Room of Her Own is to create spaces that feel like home and promote healing and growth - all part of Alpha House's process of helping the women get back on their feet.
