VA Expands Supportive Services for Veterans Families with $100 Million in Grants to Help Prevent Homelessness

Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) is a VA program that awards grants to private non-profit organizations and consumer cooperatives who will provide supportive services to very low-income Veterans and their families residing in or transitioning to permanent housing.

The grantees will provide a range of supportive services designed to promote housing stability.  The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is offering more than $100 million in grants to community groups across the country to provide support services to prevent homelessness among Veterans.  "Homelessness is a national issue that will be solved at the local level. This program expands our capacity to act before a Veteran becomes homeless and to target the problem of family homelessness." VA Secretary Eric Shinseki said.

Dr. Susan Angell, Executive Director of the Homeless Veterans Initiative, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.  Prior to joining VA's Office of Public and Intergovernmental Affairs, she served as Director of the VA Northern Arizona Healthcare System.   She has a bachelor of arts in psychology from California State University, a master of social work from the University of Hawaii and a doctorate in family therapy from the California Graduate School of Marital and Family Therapy.

Local organizations nationwide may apply now to assist the Department of Veterans Affairs with preventing and eliminating homelessness among Veterans.
