Tobacco Free Florida
The Street Team is a group of individuals who are passionate about our goal of a tobacco free Florida. They travel across the state in two Smokifier vans and
serve as the face of the Tobacco Free Florida campaign, rally communities
around the campaignʼs message, and educate Floridians about the dangers of
tobacco use.
Through community grassroots events and guerilla marketing, Tobacco Free
Florida tobacco prevention and cessation messages were reinforced among
target audiences. In order to amplify geographical saturation and penetrate niche target markets with these messages, the Street Team and Smokifier van are deployed to large and small scale events reaching specific demographics in order to reinforce the campaignʼs media advertising and reach Floridians face-to-face.
Two Smokifier vans were developed to address the need for an outreach vehicle
that would travel to communities across Florida to spread the Tobacco Free
Florida message directly to consumers and to show Floridians the physical
effects of smoking over time, as opposed to just telling them about it. The
brightly wrapped vehicles feature appealing graphics and messaging that help
draw people to learn how smoking can affect them.
The Smokifier van is equipped with age-progression technology to illustrate the
harmful physical effects of smoking verses not smoking. Visitors are seated in an awning-covered booth outside of the van, where a photo is taken and then
“smokified.” The resulting photo depicts the potential changes in ones facial
features after years of smoking versus years of tobacco-free living (i.e., wrinkles,
discoloration).
Visitors to the Tobacco Free Florida booth can spin the “Wheel of Misfortune” to
test their knowledge of the dangers of tobacco use. Give-a-ways include t-shirts,
hats, water bottles, koozies, stickers, car decals and bracelets.
