Historic Hyde Park Home Tours

Historic Hyde Park opens its doors for the Eighth Annual Home Tour on March 6th, 2010. The theme of this years event is “Celebrate the Bungalow.” The tour, sponsored by the Historic Hyde Park Neighborhood Association (HHPNA), will feature eleven private homes in the neighborhood including four residences along Bungalow Terrace, a mini-subdivision of nineteen houses facing each other across a sidewalk, and Tampa’s only example of the Bungalow Court, a popular mode of construction in California from 1909 – 1930.

The Historic Hyde Park Neighborhood Association will offer several other exciting elements in conjunction with the home tour which include a display exhibition at the Tampa History Center during the month of March 2010 featuring “The Bungalow,” and a featured film documentary produced and directed by historic preservation specialist Del Acosta. The film will premiere at the Tampa History Center on February 28 as part of the Bungalow Exhibit Opening and will also be shown several times at CINÉ BISTRO in Hyde Park on the day of the tour.

A portion of the proceeds from the tour will be allocated to help improve the appearance of the retention Pond located at the corner of Swann and Rome Avenues. Floating trash collection devices will be donated by HHPNA as well as new funds to supplement the city’s trash removal and weed control program so that the pond will continue to provide its primary function but also become an attractive neighborhood amenity.
