City of Imagination
Emerging Artist series at the Hickman Theater:
John DiSanzas "Lived Art"
Artists "meet and greet" reception: October 2, 2009, 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Bronx native John Di Sanza began creating his dynamic paintings as an
emotional response to 9-11. His works are bold, bright, and reactionary
examples of his passion for Lived Art. This installation is comprised completely
of new works, and we are very pleased that he chose Gulfport for the first
public showing. The shows runs October 1 though the 31st in the Theater
lobby gallery at 5501 27th Avenue South, Gulfport, Florida.

The City of Imagination ~ dedicated to bringing a wide range of the arts to Gulfport and to present in varied types of venues to allow the public and artists to experience creativity as a part of daily life. In this context we can act on any project that involves creativity. Projects in the visual arts, performing arts, literature, collaborations and experimental works are all considered. The aim is to act as a laboratory for artists as well as an educational organization for the public.
ORGANIZATION~
City of Imagination is a private not for profit, all volunteer corporation. We work closely with the city government to provide arts service to the public.
A unique aspect of City of Imagination is that it does not follow the usual organizational model. Although there is a Board of Directors, there are no membership structures or standing committees. All of the energies of City of Imagination are directed toward the completion of specific art or creative projects. Interests and skills are matched to specific projects. This structure allows City of Imagination to use all of its resources to perpetuate the arts and not an organization.
PROGRAMS~
In this time of decreased funding of the arts by government and private sources, City of Imagination has created a program that increases the possibilities for artists to have their work seen and for the public to directly experience a wealth of creativity without the burden of having to maintain a physical building or an organizational bureaucracy.
The City as Museum is an innovative program that uses government and private properties as venues for the exhibition of art as well as spaces for performances. As stated in our Mission, this allows the public and artists to experience creativity as a part of daily life.
ARTISTIC POLICY~
One of the focuses of City of Imagination is the art of our time. As a laboratory for experimentation, City of Imagination gives preference to artists who are dedicated to exploring the human condition in a new and unique manner.
FUNDING~
It is truly amazing what can be accomplished with very little money and a lot of imagination. City of Imagination holds a community dance and New Year's Eve celebration once a year as a fundraiser at the Gulfport Casino. The organization also receives generous donations of space and time from the community and the City of Gulfport.
