Jockey Rosemary Homeister, Jr.

Video: This winner wears heels!

Rosemary Homeister Jr. was born into the world of horseracing.  Her mother and father were both Jockeys at one time.  Her mother, who shares the same name, rode races during an era when women were just beginning to find opportunities in the racing industry as Jockeys.  Rosemary's mother was her inspiration for joining the business.  Rose, as her friends call her, cut her teeth breaking yearlings.  She learned to have patience, light hands, and learned that anything can happen while working with these beautiful animals.

She began her racing career at Calder Race Course on March 20, 1992.  Currently, she is approaching 2,500 wins.  While her mother paved the way for Jockeys of today, Rosemary has set milestones in her own right.  She was the First Woman to be honored with the well coveted Eclipse Award for Outstanding Apprentice Jockey.  She also was the fifth woman to ride in the Kentucky Derby.

Currently, she rides for trainer, Eric Reed, and races at Tampa Bay Downs.  She talks with Roxanne Wilder on Thursday's edition of Studio 10 to share a new chapter of her life.
