Leadership St. Pete Give CASA a Helping Hand

CASA has been selected as the class project for the Leadership St.
Pete class of 2010. As one of the oldest leadership programs in
America, Leadership St. Pete is a six-month experience designed to
promote and enhance community leadership skills. On May 8th, 2010,
class members will gather at CASA to provide much needed
renovations to its shelter. These renovations include replacing flooring,
refurbishing children?s bedrooms and common play areas, replacing
the privacy fence surrounding the property, and landscaping the
premises.

CASA provides shelter, food, clothing, support, advocacy, child care,
job replacement assistance, and access to community resources to
support the victims of domestic abuse. It serves nearly 400 families
(mostly women and children) annually and has been the recipient of
many community recognition awards.

The CASA shelter is a 100 year old building in St. Petersburg where
women and children are kept safe for up to 45 days after they leave
their abusive homes. The Shelter has 30 beds. Each bedroom houses
more than one family at any given time because space is limited.
Frequent traffic has resulted in wear and tear of the shelter.
