World Without Fish
Video: A chat with the author
Master storyteller MARK KURLANSKY talks about WORLD WITHOUT FISH, his riveting new book about what's happening to fish, the oceans, and our environment, and what can be done about it. In a book suitable for anyone from 10 to 100 years old, Kurlansky connects all the dots - biology, economics, evolution, politics, climate, history, culture, food, and nutrition - and tells what can be done to support sustainable fishing. The unique format includes a beautifully illustrated graphic novel of a family's fishing experiences across generations. Kram, a fictional scientist, and his daughter, Ailat, witness species vanishing as the oceans turn slimy with the resurgence of algae and krill, until a generation later Ailat's own daughter asks her "What's a fish?".
Kurlansky is a former commercial fisherman and author of the award-winning bestseller Cod: A Biography of the Fish That Changed the World, as well as Salt, The Big Oyster, and other books. He's won numerous awards, including the James A. Beard Award, ALA Notable Book Award, and New York Public Library Best Books of the Year Award.
