Writing from the Heart

Keeping a journal about their deepest thoughts and emotions may improve the way people think and feel about their disease, especially cancer patients. Ongoing research into the benefits of expressive writing has shown that it’s actually good medicine for improving health, both physically and psychologically.

With the popularity of blogs and social networking, sharing feelings with concerned friends and family adds a new dimension to the “power of the pen” or “magic of the mouse.” Doctors are encouraging patients to be open in their communication, and reveal their ups and downs, rough times and even the funny experiences as they keep their loved ones informed.

Renowned author David Tabatsky has written what some describe as a support group you can hold in your hand. He’s one of the authors of Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Cancer Book, a loving and inspirational collection of intimate stories by cancer patients, their loved ones and medical professionals.
