What is it?
The 1Day Relay is a coed 50(ish) mile point-to-point charity relay run. Teams of 4-6 self-supported runners rotate through 12 legs over the length of the course. A team vehicle carries runners to each exchange point to swap out a sweaty, tired runner for a fresh, new runner. No matter what your ability there's a place for you in the 1Day Relay!
What You Need:
? 3-5 friends, relatives, neighbors, co-workers, significant others, running buddies, casual acquaintances, ex-cellmates, etc.
? 1 van/SUV/large convertible capable of carrying 6 people, a cooler, changes of clothes, banners, pom-poms, etc.
? Access to a credit card.
? No weddings, anniversaries, college football games or out-of-town travel on Oct. 8, 2011.
? A sense of adventure and desire for fun.
What You Don't Need:
? A 20 week training plan with words like fartlek, negative split, hill intervals and goal pace in it.
? A GPS watch. (We're not sure exactly how long the course really is)
How it Works:
? Team members decide which legs they want to run:
? Teams of 4 run 3 legs each
? Teams of 6 run 2 legs each
? Teams of 5 run 2 legs each and select two people (suckers) to run an additional leg
? On event morning the entire team assembles at the start area to sign their waivers, pick up t-shirts and bags, and listen to our mandatory safety briefing. At the start signal the chosen runner takes off to the cheers of the rest of the team. As the runner heads out of sight, the team piles into their vehicle and drives (at a safe speed and obeying all local, state and federal traffic laws) to the next exchange point. The team piles out of the vehicle and gets set up by the exchange area. The next runner finishes hydrating, limbers up and gets psyched up. The runners exchange the slap strap in the designated exchange area.
? Repeat 10 times.
? At the finish line the entire team meets the final runner 150-200 feet from the finish line and everyone gets to cross the finish line together. You get your medals, pose for photos, sign autographs and head over to the party area for a beer.
? Wasn't that fun?
